What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

I love to read, watch movies and travel. Traveling is my true passion and I always say I work so I can travel. I love good food, especially anything Asian.

What is your background?

I grew up in Nebraska and after graduating from UNL, I moved to the east coast to experience life somewhere new. I spent 11 years in northern Virginia in the DC area and loved it. It’s fast paced with lots going on and everything always moving, and I enjoyed the hustle and bustle of it. I moved back to Nebraska 7 years ago to be closer to my family and have worked remotely up until coming to BMG.

What are three words to describe BMG?

Community/family – one thing I was lacking working remotely was the connection with people and the close-knit community. BMG definitely feels like a family and has a tight connection.

Fun! – BMG knows how have a good time when the occasion arises and always finds an occasion!

Hardworking – the people at BMG are dedicated to their clients and strive to provide the best service they can. They work hard to exceed client expectations and to be the best.

What are your favorite industries to work with and why?

I spent a lot of my career in the Not-for-profit space and it’s one I have enjoyed. I loved working with the different charities and finding out just how many there are out there!  Seeing all the things they were doing and accomplishing was fascinating and definitely inspiring. It was also great to be able to lend a hand, offer assistance or guidance and do what we could to support their missions. There are so many wonderful organizations out there doing such amazing work and working with them always helped motivate me to do more and get involved.

What are your credentials/past experience for working in your position?

I started my career in government grant accounting with the University of Nebraska and moved to bookkeeping with a CPA firm. From there I gradually moved into a bit of tax and audit and that lead down the audit focused path to where I am today. I feel that my start in bookkeeping allowed me to see the other side of the audit and to understand where the numbers are coming from, how they get into the system, how things move through software and systems, and gave me a great foundation as an auditor.  Being able to see and understand both sides of the fence has been a great advantage in my career and gives me a bit of a unique perspective.

In auditing, the concept of materiality is, simply, setting a threshold that anything under that threshold won’t materially misstate your financial statements. I try to apply this concept to my entire life – basically, don’t sweat the small stuff! In auditing, the concept of materiality is, simply, setting a threshold that anything under that threshold won’t materially misstate your financial statements.
